Sao Paulo Stadium, Morumbi is considering to close for reforms for the Cup 2014

Indication of São Paulo as a host-city for the World Cup in 2014 and postulant the opening game , the Morumbi stadium could be closed for carrying out works to the tournament. Even without confirming the hypothesis, the direction of São Paulo admits that in the final stage of the reforms, the site couldn't recive games during a period.

According to João Paulo de Jesus Lopes, director of the São Paulo football, the pace of reform should be increased to one or two years before the Cup and depending on the schedule, the site must be completely closed for the completion of works.

"We will do many works in the end to prevent deterioration, such as the exchange of the total seats, for example. So it may be close to the Morumbi during a period," explained the manager.

If the Morumbi has to be temporarily disabled, the state follow the example of the Maracanã (Rio de Janeiro official Stadium). In February, during the last visit of the Fifa inspectors to the country, the state secretary of Tourism, Sport and Recreation in Rio de Janeiro, Marcia Lins, confirmed that the final stage of World Cup of 1950 will be closed for up to two years on account of reforms to the World Cup 2014.

For now, all the works of modernization of the São Paulo state are being made parallel to the use of the stadium. The next step, for example, should be the reform of the athletics track surrounding the pitch of Morumbi.
