Fifa has announced the 12 host cities for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Reuters reports that the chosen cities are: Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Cuiaba, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Natal, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Sao Paulo.

Five cities which submitted bids to be host cities missed out - Campo Grande, Goiania, Rio Branco and Florianopolis. The cities selected cover Brazil’s main regions, and will mean long distance travel for teams. "There are no winning and losing cities here in Brazil. We are all taking part in the World Cup here in Brazil and we can all be proud," said Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) president Ricardo Terra Teixeira, according to Reuters."For the 12 privileged cities chosen, it's the beginning of the work. They have a huge responsibility". Fifa had originally wanted only 10 host cities but were persuaded by Brazil to allow two more.
