A new multi-year agreement secures the successful partnership between Solidsport and the Swedish Handball Federation. With more than 91,000 live-streamed matches and over 2 million euro generated for Swedish handball clubs since 2018, the parties are now aiming to take Handboll Play to the next level.

Since 2018, the Swedish Handball Federation and Solidsport have worked together to digitalize Swedish handball. Through the joint platform Handboll Play, the sport has gained a digital home at all levels – from Allsvenskan Men and Women, ATG Svenska Cupen, and the Swedish Youth Championships, to thousands of youth games and tournaments across the country.

Since its launch, more than 91,000 matches have been streamed through the platform, generating over 2.1 million euro in revenue for Swedish handball clubs. This development has made Handboll Play one of Europe’s most successful streaming initiatives for both grassroots and professional sports.

It is now confirmed that the partnership between Solidsport and the Swedish Handball Federation will continue through a new long-term agreement. Both parties share the ambition to take Handboll Play to the next level, meeting future needs in technology, accessibility, and content. “We are pleased to continue our journey together. The new agreement allows us to keep developing handball for everyone. When players and referees can review their performances and grow, when families and friends can follow their children and teammates no matter where they play – then we are building Swedish handball from the ground up. For the clubs, it means visibility and revenue that strengthens their activities. With new technology, we can take another step forward – more matches will be automatically produced while the entire handball community gains a safe, reliable platform with an improved experience. This takes us closer to our shared vision: a handball that reaches everyone, develops everyone, and engages everyone – everywhere.” – Robert Wedberg, Secretary General of the Swedish Handball Federation.

New app launching this season

As part of the new agreement, several major initiatives will be introduced over the coming years. One of the key milestones is the launch of a new Handboll Play app during the 2025/2026 season. The app will further enhance the user experience, enabling fans to follow matches through both live streaming and live reporting with real-time statistics.

The parties are also investing in new technology, including AI-based production solutions that make it possible to automatically broadcast more matches in high quality. At the same time, a dedicated investment will be made in Allsvenskan Men and Women, with a focus on raising production standards and expanding editorial coverage. “This is not just about continuing a successful partnership, but about raising the ambitions for Handboll Play as a whole. We want to create an even more engaging and accessible experience for everyone who follows the sport – whether it’s parents watching their kids play or fans supporting their favorite teams.” – Johan Lundqvist, CEO of Solidsport.

With a continued joint focus on strengthening Swedish handball, increasing visibility for leagues and teams, and delivering a better viewing experience, the new agreement marks a clear continuation of the successful work that has been ongoing for more than six years.
