Axess Equips Five FIFA World Cup 2026™ Stadiums for the World’s Biggest Soccer Tournament

As the FIFA World Cup™ kicks off this Thursday with a record 48 participating nations and 104 matches across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Austrian technology will play a key role in ensuring seamless stadium access for millions of fans. Five FIFA World Cup™ 2026 venues have been equipped with state-of-the-art Axess access control systems and comprehensively modernized in recent years.
The venues include Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Gillette Stadium in Boston, Lumen Field in Seattle, BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, and Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. These stadiums will host numerous group-stage matches as well as knockout-round games. The FIFA World Cup™ 2026 will be the largest tournament in the competition’s history, attracting millions of spectators to stadiums and billions of viewers worldwide. A total of 104 matches will be played across 16 venues in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The technological modernization of these venues was carried out under the leadership of Renier Steyn, General Manager of Axess Stadia US. The objective was to upgrade existing access systems with the latest digital ticketing and entry technologies and ensure that each stadium is fully prepared for the demands of a global mega-event.
“Every year, we equip around ten stadiums with the latest access technology, whether for soccer, baseball, rugby, or other major sports. Stadium operators are looking to set new benchmarks for the fan experience, and they see our solutions as the perfect way to achieve that,” says Steyn.
“The requirements for security, speed, and user convenience at a World Cup are enormous. Together with our customers, we have future-proofed these venues and can proudly say that millions of fans will benefit from our technology,” adds Christian Heidegger, Head of Global Stadia Business at Axess.
Axess has become one of the leading providers of access management systems in the North American sports market. Today, more than 50 stadiums throughout the United States are equipped with Axess technology. The systems enable fast and secure ticket validation, support digital and mobile ticketing, and provide the foundation for modern, frictionless visitor experiences.
For Oliver Suter, CEO of Axess AG, this development highlights the strategic importance of the North American market: “The United States is currently the fastest-growing market for Axess worldwide. Many stadiums are modernizing their infrastructure and transitioning to digital access solutions. Demand for innovative and scalable systems continues to grow, and we therefore expect a very positive trajectory for the years ahead.”
With successful modernization projects in five FIFA World Cup™ 2026 venues and a strong footprint across North America, Axess continues to strengthen its position as a global technology leader in intelligent access and visitor management solutions. As the world’s attention turns to North America this summer, Austrian technology will help ensure the smooth operation of the largest sporting event on the planet.
