CBF (Brazilian soccer confederation) guarantees Sao Paulo as host-city

In a meeting with the São Paulo state Industries Federation, which happened on October 17th , the chairman of the CBF (Brazilian soccer Confederation) and the Organizing FIFA Committee for the World Cup 2014 also Ricardo Teixeira, said that Sao Paulo is probably one of the host-cities for the games, and more than that, it’ll open the Cup.

"It is premature to speak of the city that is going to open the Cup, but if it is chosen to,  it has everything to be. Governor of state, José Serra was very smart to point Rio de Janeiro as final stage . With this attitude, he almost surely prevented the opening ceremony in any another city, "said Ricardo Teixeira.

During the meeting the logistics, infrastructure and most important, the requirements for the development of FIFA World Cup in 2014 were also discussed. Another point raised was the differences between the Pan American and Olympic games, where the investments are public, and the World Cup where they are private.

The 10 cities more likely to be hosting the World Cup will be confirmed in March 2009. According to Ricardo Teixeira, no other state is presented as an alternative for the Cup’s opening ceremony. However, Belo Horizonte and Brasilia had been extra-officially interested. With the comment indicating the city of Sao Paulo, Ricardo Teixeira frustrates plans of both cities.

Moreover, after months when speaking on hosting World Cup games in stadiums that have not yet left the paper, the presidents of Corinthians and Palmeiras (brazilian local teams) are disappointed to hear that Sao Paulo’s Morumbi is going to be the stage of the World Cup.
