2014 fees will be monitored 2 Apr 2009

A team of parliamentarians will monitor public and private spending with the Cup in 2014. The Chamber of Deputies created the representative Standing Subcommittee of the Cup, with the objective to monitor and control the money that will be used. Created last week, the team has 13 members and its President is Mr Rômulo Gouveia (PSDB-PB). The representatives of Minas Gerais Sate are, William Carlos (PTC), João Magalhães (PMDB), Ademir Camilo (PDT) and Marcio Reinaldo (PP).

On first of April , the Commission of Control, Audit and Finance, to which the subcommittee is subject examines routes proposed by the working group of Deputies . The President Rômulo Gouveia prefers to keep the contents confidential, but says that the subcommittee should convene representatives of the Organizing Committee of the World Cup, FIFA, CBF and Ministry of Sports to analyze spreadsheets of expenses of each entity. "Some works should be financed with resources from the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC)," he says.

According to Gouveia, the estimate made last year to spend with the Cup was $ 10 billion. But between public spending and private initiative, the cost should reach $ 100 billion. "In Germany, in 2006, the costs of the government decreased considerably because of partnerships with private companies," said Gouveia.

The subcommittee will follow from the estimated cost of constructing the stadium until the possibility of a private initiative run works. With regard to the infrastructure of Minas, William Carlos says that parliamentarians will monitor more closely the performance of the states. 17 candidates for 12 places  to host the games.
